Brazil iGaming Regulatory Recap: Weekly Summary

By Lucas Mondelo

When it comes to big business, results ultimately speak louder.

One mistake that must be avoided is the human tendency of wishful thinking when invested in a process that is clearly not producing results.

The truth is simple: the gaming industry saw some action in the legislative houses in 2023 in Brazil, as well as initiatives coming from the Presidency.

However, at this point in the year it's time to look at the results of these efforts and reflect on the fact that no actual taxation plan will be in force for gaming operators as of Q1 2024.

There's absolutely no certainty in terms of the potential advertisement regulations for operators, affiliates and TV channels / streaming sources.

From a regulatory perspective, nothing happened that actually is into force as of Q4 2023.

It's no stretch to say that we had a void regulatory in terms of practical consequences for the gaming industry.

Politicians will now leave office for the holiday season plus a big part of January.

Corporations and private sector players need to focus on the consequences of intentions of market players, not just intentions and promises.

Time will tell what 2024, a year of mid term elections in Brazil will eventually bring to the gaming industry in terms of practical regulatory and fiscal consequences
