North Fork Mono Casino opened in Madera, California, on Tuesday offering more than 2,400 slot machines and 40 table games. Station Casinos LLC manages it in partnership with the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians after decades of delays from lawsuits. The approximately $750 million project has a pending federal lawsuit from the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians.
SCCG Take — The opening advances tribal revenue streams and community services in California despite ongoing litigation risks from competing operators. Federal resolution will shape expansion timing and set precedent for similar tribal projects.
The North Fork Mono Casino officially opened Tuesday in Madera, California. The property provides more than 2,400 slot machines and 40 table games.
The casino resort is managed by Station Casinos LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Red Rock Resorts, in partnership with the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians. It features a High Limit Room with 138 slot machines and 10 table games plus a private bar and dedicated cashier. Eight dining venues and four bars round out the food and beverage offerings.
“When you come in, it’s elegant,” Mark Ward, General Manager of North Fork Mono Casino, said in a report by Fresno Bee. “It’s also just a place where you feel like you’re at home.”
The flagship Manzanita Steakhouse serves farm-to-table cuisine with more than 250 local and international wine labels, live piano music, and mixologist-prepared cocktails. Connor Jessop, its general manager, said the team aimed to balance luxury and accessibility. “Our focus is to also make those luxury options affordable because we want anyone and everyone to feel welcome here,” Jessop said.
Bars take names from landmarks of significance to the tribe: Whiskey Falls, Rock Creek, and Willow Creek. Clubhouse 99, the sports bar, carries 56 television screens and California craft beers. The food court includes Kopiah Coffee and Fuego Mexican Kitchen, which added items such as fried pork belly chicharrón.
The $750 million development follows decades of tribal efforts slowed by state and federal lawsuits. The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, operator of Chukchansi Gold Casino and Resort, maintains a pending federal lawsuit seeking to suspend North Fork operations. Both tribes await a federal judge’s ruling.
Maryann McGovran, tribal treasurer, said the casino will generate additional revenue for social services for North Fork citizens and for the City and County of Madera under existing agreements. She called the opening “a beautiful time” and expressed no interest in holding grudges over the delays. Ward noted that the extended timeline enabled the incorporation of community feedback, yielding more slot machines than first envisioned.
According to reporting by Yogonet International, future phases include a hotel, parking garage, entertainment centre, and conference centre. The outcome of the pending federal litigation will determine how quickly those elements can proceed.
