Stephen Crystal, Founder and CEO of SCCG Management, sits down with Kirk Geller of Global Gaming Insider to discuss the Venezuela Gaming Expo and why Venezuela represents one of the most significant untapped opportunities in the global gaming industry.

Executive Summary

In this exclusive interview with Global Gaming Insider, SCCG Management Founder and CEO Stephen Crystal outlines the case for Venezuela as one of Latin America’s most important emerging gaming markets and previews the inaugural Venezuela Gaming Expo, scheduled for early 2027 (new dates to be announced) in Caracas.

Crystal describes Venezuela’s gaming opportunity as historic, citing the country’s massive oil and gas reserves, a population of nearly 29 million, and a functioning regulated gambling industry that spans casinos, online gaming, horse racing, and lottery. He notes that Venezuela was once considered the jewel of South America, and that recent shifts in the country’s political and economic landscape are opening doors to international investment and industry engagement for the first time in decades.

The Venezuela Gaming Expo, organized by SCCG LATAM with local partners and a formal government invitation, will be the first international gaming trade show ever held in the country. Crystal confirms that government ministers from Venezuela’s gaming regulatory bodies will be among the featured speakers, providing international attendees with direct insight into how the Venezuelan gaming industry is expected to develop.

The intended audience for the Expo spans Venezuelan brick-and-mortar and online operators, the broader Latin American market (including Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil), and international suppliers and investors from Europe and the United States.

Full Interview: Stephen Crystal on the Venezuela Gaming Expo

The following is a transcript of the interview between Kirk Geller of Global Gaming Insider and Stephen Crystal, Founder and CEO of SCCG Management.

Kirk Geller: Today we are here with SCCG Management Founder and CEO Stephen Crystal. How are you today, Stephen?

Stephen Crystal: Great, Kirk. How are you?

Kirk Geller: Very good. Happy to be here with you today. I was wondering if we could talk about the new Venezuela Gaming Expo that SCCG announced recently. When and where will the event be taking place, and how did it come to fruition?

Stephen Crystal: Well, I would say the event is historic. Obviously, we are all aware, if we follow current events, of the sea change that has occurred in Venezuela after decades and decades of rule that was less than supportive of the people. Now, experiencing these newfound freedoms and the potential of open and fair elections, we are expecting to see industries like the gambling industry open up in Venezuela.

SCCG is not new to emerging markets. We have opened up quite a few here in America, and so we have expanded now to include the Americas, to include Venezuela. From early 2027, with local partners in tow, people who are leaders within the existing gambling industry of Venezuela, we will host, with a government invitation, the first-ever gaming trade show, early 2027 in Caracas.

We are now out in the marketplace with a pre-registration process, and soon we will be sending out details in terms of the speakers, most of whom will be government ministers who will be telling people how they see the Venezuelan gaming industry opening up.

Kirk Geller: Fantastic. You kind of delved into it there, but why Venezuela specifically? How does the country stand out as an emerging market in your mind?

Stephen Crystal: Look, people who are my age might remember, but people younger would not, that at one time Venezuela was the jewel of South America. Its oil and gas industry is the largest in the world. We think of the Middle East, we think of even America, but actually the Middle East and America are dwarfed by Venezuela in terms of those resources.

For many years, because of the communist rule, they were unable to realize the full potential of that. And so now, with that being open to new investment, we are expecting that to lift the entire economy, including the gambling industry. We expect to be leaders there in terms of making sure the best practices, the best suppliers and operators are operating within that environment.

Kirk Geller: Definitely, we appreciate you providing insight on that. And just to wrap up, what is the intended audience for this event? Would you say Venezuelan residents and operators specifically, or the broader Latin American market?

Stephen Crystal: Obviously, we are going to appeal to the dozens and dozens and dozens of brick-and-mortar casino operators, online operators. Horse racing is very big, and lottery. So there is a very significant indigenous gambling industry. Obviously the broader South American market, whether it be Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, places where, Brazil even, where there is also emerging gambling, we expect them to be interested.

And then there will be people from Europe, suppliers. There will be people from the US who are interested in seeing what opportunities lie in store for them in this amazing potential of a market that is Venezuela as well.

Kirk Geller: Thank you so much. We appreciate you speaking on that, Stephen. For Global Gaming Insider, I have been Kirk Geller.
