SBC Lisbon Recap

As I reflect on another extraordinary week at SBC Summit Lisbon, one thing is clear: the global gaming industry continues to evolve at a breathtaking pace. Lisbon has become more than a conference—it’s a gathering point where innovation, regulation, and opportunity collide.

This year’s summit showcased the full spectrum of our industry’s challenges and opportunities. From the regulatory hurdles across Europe to the rising promise of the UAE and Asia, the energy in every hall and booth underscored just how dynamic this ecosystem has become.

Personal Highlights

  • Announcing the SCCG-Bragg Gaming partnership on Day 1 was a major milestone and a proud moment for our team.
  • Meeting boxing legend Oleksandr Usyk at GR8 Tech’s activation was unforgettable (even if I finished last in the punching contest!).
  • Hosting and joining partners like Smartico.ai at their booth underscored the collaborative spirit that makes SBC such a productive conference.
  • And despite the packed agenda, I even managed to host a midnight webinar back to students in the West Virginia University Gaming Department, bridging today’s industry developments with tomorrow’s leaders.

Key Industry Trends

Europe Under Pressure
European markets dominated early discussions, particularly around regulatory tightening. Higher taxation, advertising restrictions, and ongoing reputational challenges were front and center. The debate over Finland’s 2027 market launch was heated, with operators and regulators at odds over advertising and affiliate access. Meanwhile, Italy’s advertising ban highlighted how even global operators must start from scratch in heavily restricted jurisdictions.

The Middle East Rising
The UAE commanded significant attention as panelists painted a picture of a market with the potential to “redefine what gaming means.” With regulators already taking aggressive action against illegal operators, the UAE looks poised to establish itself as a model for innovation, compliance, and consumer protection.

Asia in the Spotlight
As the show moved into its final day, conversations shifted to Asia. It’s clear that markets in this region will be pivotal for the next wave of growth, but operators must be prepared to adapt quickly to diverse regulatory frameworks.

  • Shufti – As compliance and identity verification take center stage, Shufti’s biometric and AI-driven solutions stood out as essential to future-proofing operator integrity.
  • Captain Up – Loyalty and gamification were everywhere in Lisbon, and Captain Up’s ability to create interactive, AI-powered player rewards resonated strongly.
  • Boosted Bets – Skill-based DFS innovation is carving out new spaces in regulated markets, and Boosted Bets showed why its sustainable model is one to watch.
  • iGaming Express – Media remains the amplifier of industry voices, and iGaming Express continues to provide a vital platform for news and thought leadership.
  • Altenar – As sportsbooks look for flexibility and scalability, Altenar’s platform stood out as one of the most agile solutions in the market.

Looking Ahead

SBC Lisbon 2025 confirmed once again that our industry is at an inflection point. Regulation will continue to tighten, new markets will open, and innovation will separate the leaders from the laggards.

At SCCG Management, we’re proud to stand alongside our client partners—whether they’re pioneering streaming technology, gamification, payments, compliance, or game design—as we help them navigate these evolving landscapes.

The conversations we started in Lisbon won’t end here. In just a few weeks, we’ll reconvene on the Las Vegas Strip for G2E 2025, ready to build on the momentum.

Lisbon was about more than panels and booths—it was about charting the future of gaming. And that future looks brighter than ever.
