New Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy will kick-off his tenure at Parkhead with a top-of-the-table clash with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor was finally confirmed in midweek, with interim manager Martin O’Neill stepping aside after impressively steering Celtic through choppy waters and towards the summit of the Scottish top–flight standings.
As for Hearts, they are clinging on to top spot in the Scottish Premiership table after registering just one victory across their last six matches, with their latest setback a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.
Given the contrasting form that these two teams are currently experiencing, it’s no real surprise to see that the bookies are expecting new Celtic boss Nancy to hit the ground running on Sunday, with a home win trading at 4/7.
However, I’m happier focussing on an alternative market with one player-based selection in particular holding plenty of appeal.
Cammy Devlin has been priced up at a very attractive 10/11 with Ladbrokes to commit two or more fouls during this Celtic Park showdown.
Devlin is a player who is well renowned for his terrier-like displays in the middle of the park and his love of a strong tackle has often seen him get on the wrong side of match officials.
That has certainly proven to be the case this season, with the Hearts midfielder committing an average of 2.14 fouls per game in the Scottish Premiership this term.
Delve deeper into Devlin’s foul data and you will see that he has overstepped the mark twice or more in nine of the 15 matches that he has started for Hearts’ in this season’s Scottish Premiership.
What’s more, the Australia international has been guilty of multiple offences in five of Hearts’ previous seven top-flight fixtures, making no fewer than five misdemeanours during last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Motherwell.
Now set to come up against Celtic in their own backyard on Sunday afternoon, Devlin is certain to be one of the main protagonists in what promises to be a fiery midfield battle.
So with all things considered, the combative Hearts midfielder represents terrific value to commit two or more fouls at a shade below even-money, particularly in a game of this magnitude.
