After two decades in the NBA, veteran point guard Chris Paul has declared that he will retire after one more season.
As his career wraps up following the 2025-26 NBA season, the future Hall of Famer wanted to be near his children in Los Angeles. This limited his options to a few teams, with a return to the LA Clippers being the most probable choice.
On Monday, Paul chose to reunite with the Clippers for his farewell season, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.
Free agent point guard Chris Paul has signed a deal with the LA Clippers for what is expected to be his final, 21st NBA season, according to CAA’s Steven Heumann, Ty Sullivan, and Jessica Holtz via ESPN.
Paul joining the Clippers is logical, as he had significant success with them and fills a short-term team need. The Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and Dallas Mavericks were other interested teams, per ESPN.
Paul, 40, considered offers from the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and Dallas Mavericks, but the 12-time All-Star opted for the contending Clippers, with whom he shares a history in Los Angeles. In June, Paul mentioned on “The Pat McAfee Show” his desire to play his 21st season near his family in Los Angeles.
In addition to Paul, the Clippers brought in several prominent veterans this summer. Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez, and John Collins will join Paul in Los Angeles, playing alongside Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.
