Day 1 — Reykjavík: Arrival, Acclimation & Arctic Winds

Stephen’s first day in Iceland was all about adjusting to the sharp, bone-chilling Reykjavík cold — wind chills dropping to -6°C and Arctic gusts hitting from every direction. After landing in Keflavik, his first stop was a local classic: Issi Fish & Chips, enjoying fresh cod straight from Icelandic waters.
Driving into the capital, he passed vast black-lava fields and steaming hot springs feeding Iceland’s geothermal grid. Once settled into the Parliament Hotel in Reykjavík, he explored the city’s public art, waterfront architecture, and Nordic heritage museums before capping the night with a standout dinner at Fiskfelsgid Fish House.

Day 2 — Reykjavík: Snowfall, Stillness & City Photography

Day Two brought a quiet blanket of snow across the city, muting the wind and transforming Reykjavík into a serene scene of winter stillness. Stephen spent the day photographing architecture, street murals, seascapes, and urban vistas as the city slowed around him.
With gear prepared and acclimation complete, he closed Day Two ready to begin his multi-day road expedition — the first major leg heading north toward the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Day 3 — Snæfellsnes: Hot Springs, Volcanic Landscapes & “Real Iceland”

The drive from Reykjavík to Snæfellsnes on Day Three was nothing short of dramatic. Stephen stopped at a remote hot spring tucked inside windswept lava fields — a surreal mix of icy air, steaming geothermal pools, moss-covered rock, and snow-patched mountains.
After an impromptu dip, a stove-top lunch in nature, and cod for dinner, Stephen reflected on the extremity and beauty of Iceland’s wild west coast. Jagged rocks, frozen ground, shifting winds — and moments of complete calm. This was Iceland far beyond the tourist trail.

Day 4 — Hvítserkur to Akureyri: Ice Climbing & Northern Coastlines

Day Four stretched from pre-dawn to darkness, crossing some of northern Iceland’s most impressive terrain. Stephen pushed himself physically with light ice-climbing to reach an up-close vantage of Hvítserkur — the iconic basalt sea stack rising from black sand like a mythological guardian.
From there, the journey continued east, hugging coastlines, cliffs, and luminous skies before arriving in Akureyri. The day ended with anticipation for the next region: Mývatn.

Day 5 — Mývatn: Hot Springs, Waterfalls, Lava Fields & Volcano Trails

The fifth day carried Stephen from Akureyri into the otherworldly Mývatn region — a geothermal wonderland shaped by active volcanic forces. He explored steaming hot springs framed by frost, walked across ancient lava fields carved by past eruptions, and visited waterfalls surrounded by basalt formations.
The day concluded near the base of a dormant volcano, where rising geothermal mist mixed with snow-dusted rock to create a landscape that felt both prehistoric and spiritual. A fitting continuation of the “Viking spirit” he’s been channeling throughout the expedition.

Day 6 — Mývatn to Höfn: Snow Treks, Caves & the Quiet Power of Waterfalls

Day Six carried Stephen from the geothermal landscapes of Mývatn into the sweeping, rugged expanse of Northeast Iceland — a stretch defined by hot springs, frozen ground, and long, empty roads. The day began with stops at natural hot pools and cave formations, each steaming against the cold as snow drifted across the horizon.

The highlight: a two-mile trek through one to two feet of fresh snow, a full-body workout that turned the icy terrain into both challenge and meditation. Waterfalls followed — tall, thundering, and almost entirely private thanks to the quiet winter season. Their force echoed through the still air, a reminder of Iceland’s unmatched balance between violence and tranquility.

By afternoon, Stephen continued southeast toward Höfn, preparing for a glacier tour near Reynisfjara and more waterfall exploration. With virtually no tourists around, the landscape felt untouched — allowing him to experience Iceland with a sense of solitude, scale, and harmony that only nature at its rawest can provide.

Day 7 — Reynisfjara to Vatnajökull: Black Sands & Glacial Giants

Day Seven swept Stephen from the roaring black-sand beaches of Reynisfjara to the jagged ice fields surrounding Vatnajökull Glacier. Towering mountains, crashing waves, and sparkling glacier formations made each stop more breathtaking than the last. After passing through Höfn, he continued toward Mýrdal, preparing for a journey into Þórsmörk’s glaciers and black sands before wrapping up the trip with Golden Circle highlights and a return to Reykjavík.

Day 8 — Reynisfjara to Vatnajökull: Black Sands & Glacial Giants

Day Eight took Stephen deep into Þórsmörk — a region so dramatic it may be the most spectacular of the entire trip. Guided by Svenny, a local expert known for navigating Iceland’s wildest terrain in his customized Land Cruiser with 44-inch tires, Stephen traveled across river crossings, lava fields, and right to the edge of a major glacier. The landscapes were towering, raw, and unforgettable — a true “once-in-a-lifetime” day. By evening, he returned to Reykjavík for some well-earned rest before the final stretch of the journey.

Day 9 — Viking Spirit, Scale & Iceland’s Untamed Power

Day Nine brought a reflective moment as Stephen “channeled his inner Viking,” taking in the vastness of Iceland after days of crossing glaciers, lava fields, coastlines, and highland terrain. Despite covering huge stretches of land, he noted that it represents less than one percent of Iceland’s total size — a country comparable to Colorado, Kentucky, or Pennsylvania. The extremes of the winter landscape highlighted a deeper truth he’s found through traveling to over 100 countries: nature’s power dwarfs us all. Whether in Iceland or anywhere on the globe, respecting that force is essential — a philosophy the Vikings lived by, and one Stephen embraces on this unforgettable journey.

Day 10 — Reykjavík: Local Flavors, Golden Circle & Exciting Partnerships

Day Ten offered Stephen a well-deserved day off in Reykjavík, sampling Icelandic specialties — whale, reindeer, Arctic char — paired with local Christmas beer, enjoying time with friends and colleagues. The adventure resumed with visits to several Golden Circle sites, with a possible helicopter excursion on the horizon before concluding 13 unforgettable days in Iceland. Back home, December promises to be busy at SCCG Management, highlighted by the announcement of a new strategic partnership with Elite Picks, adding to a growing network of over 100 best-in-class casino and iGaming providers.

Day 11 — Golden Circle: Canyons, Geysers, Waterfalls & Tomatoes

Day Eleven brought Stephen back out into Iceland’s famed Golden Circle, exploring dramatic canyons, erupting geysers, powerful waterfalls, and even a unique geothermal tomato farm. Each stop felt like a finale in itself, yet the trip continued to outdo itself. The day was set to conclude with a spectacular helicopter tour over untouched landscapes — complete with glacier landings — before Stephen returns to Las Vegas and continues on to Natchez, Mississippi for more casino exploration and due diligence. No rest for the adventurous — the journey always continues.
