A New Jersey Wegmans ticket won the $847M Powerball jackpot, ninth-largest ever, ending 35 rollovers. The winner can choose $363.1M cash or annuity; anonymity is allowed. It follows an Illinois $1.04B win by three months.
SCCG Take — Consecutive nine-figure prizes underscore lottery momentum that gaming operators should track for cross-channel consumer patterns.
A single Powerball ticket sold at a Wegmans Food Market in Montvale, New Jersey, matched all six numbers in the November 4 drawing to win an $847 million jackpot. The prize ranks as the ninth-largest in Powerball history. The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53, 56, with a red Powerball of 21.
The draw ended a sequence of 35 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. As of the afternoon of November 5, no claimant had come forward. New Jersey permits winners to remain anonymous indefinitely.
The holder can select 30 graduated annual payments over 29 years for the full $847 million or a one-time cash option of $363.1 million. Both figures are before taxes. The supermarket receives a $30,000 bonus for selling the ticket. New Jersey Lottery executive director James Carey was scheduled to present a ceremonial check to the store.
According to reporting by Casino.org, only one ticket matched all six numbers, but the drawing produced more than one million other prize-winning tickets nationwide. Twenty-five tickets won $50,000 by matching four white balls plus the Powerball. Four others doubled to $100,000 with the Power Play option. No tickets claimed the game's $1 million or $2 million second-tier prizes.
The jackpot had built since an Illinois ticket won $1.04 billion on August 12, the eighth-largest prize. That places two of the game's nine largest jackpots within three months. “Back-to-back jackpot runs resulting in prizes of this magnitude are a testament to the excitement Powerball generates,” said Stephen Durrell, chair of the Powerball Product Group and executive director of the Kansas Lottery.
The odds of winning the jackpot stand at approximately one in 292.2 million. The record remains the $2.04 billion prize claimed in California in November 2022. Following this result, the jackpot resets to $20 million for the next drawing.
