SCCG Take — The transition supplies operational scale and technology transformation expertise that directly matches lottery demands for modernization and responsible growth.
Scientific Games announced that Dan Flynn will become CEO effective November 2. Kevin Schneider, interim CEO since September, was named chairman. The company detailed the appointments on Thursday.
Flynn joins from CDK Global, a Brookfield portfolio company, where he served as chief transformation officer. He previously held roles at Scientific Games from 2016 to 2019 as business transformation executive vice president and president of North America. His experience includes more than 30 years across global operations, enterprise technology and strategic transformation.
Flynn led software and hardware delivery for state and municipal customers. At Caterpillar he managed more than $4 billion in annual sales to the dealer network. He spent more than two decades at Hertz, rising to North American operations senior vice president overseeing a $6.6 billion business with 23,000 employees.
Schneider joined the board as an independent director in 2022, became vice chairman in March and served as interim CEO after Pat McHugh’s retirement in September. As chairman he will continue to address strategic, commercial and operational priorities with the board and leadership team.
According to reporting by CDC Gaming, Schneider stated: “For more than five decades, Scientific Games has grown through strong customer partnerships, deep lottery expertise and a commitment to innovation. Dan brings the operational and technology leadership experience to build on that momentum, support our talented teams and advance our global capabilities to support continued growth and the opportunities ahead. Together, we will help our customers meet evolving player expectations and succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”
Flynn stated: “Scientific Games combines global operations, technology and customer delivery in ways that align closely with my experience. I look forward to bringing that experience to a talented team with deep lottery expertise and a strong commitment to customer success. Together, we will build on the company’s achievements, support our employees’ development and strengthen the capabilities needed for future growth. Our focus will be on delivering the games, technology and services that help lotteries achieve their objectives and responsibly grow funding for good causes.”
Flynn will join the team at the World Lottery Summit in Sydney, Australia, November 9–13.
The return of an executive with direct prior tenure at Scientific Games plus large-scale operational leadership at Hertz and Caterpillar supplies continuity paired with proven execution at revenue levels that exceed many lottery budgets. This pairing reduces onboarding friction while injecting transformation experience gained since 2019.
The appointments center on aligning technology delivery, global operations and customer success to help lotteries expand responsibly. Execution will be measured by how quickly the new structure converts stated intentions into concrete product and service enhancements visible to lottery operators and regulators at the Sydney summit and subsequent contract cycles.
