Athletics name Cam Castro as GM to import Brewers' pitching lab and culture ahead of 2028 Las Vegas move. Golden Knights rookie Trevor Connelly scores seventh goal in win; Raiders at 4-4 face 6-1 49ers after comeback victory. Updates reflect competitive positioning across Vegas teams.

SCCG Take — Castro's focus on translating analytics through coaching and ego-free collaboration offers a model for teams entering new markets. Execution here will shape long-term competitiveness and local engagement.

The Athletics have named Cam Castro, 36, as general manager as the franchise prepares for its move to a new $2 billion ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip in 2028. Castro joins from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent eight seasons as senior vice president of player development and performance and played a key role in the organization's World Series championship, as reported by Casino.org News.

Castro met with media on November 4 alongside Taylor Smith, the newly appointed president of baseball operations. He plans to bring the Brewers' pitching lab development approach to the Athletics. Milwaukee led MLB with 103 pitching wins and ranked second in ERA at 3.51.

The Athletics finished 2026 at 64-98 and last in the majors in pitching with a 5.43 ERA. Castro said the program requires more than analytics to succeed.

"You want to just give players good information, let them know exactly what you're trying to improve, why that matters, and then how that's going," Castro said. "And yeah, I think we will build that into every environment that we have here."

"It has to reach the field," he said. "It has to reach the player. The player has to be able to do something with it. We have to support the player in that process with just good coaching, good relationships."

Castro credited the Brewers' success to talented people working together without egos and aims to establish the same culture in Las Vegas.

Performance Updates Across Vegas Pro Teams

Trevor Connelly scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 left in the third period of the Golden Knights' 2-1 win over the Red Wings, his seventh goal of the season to go with five assists. The 20-year-old rookie has scored in three straight games. The victory pushed the Golden Knights to 11-5-2, one point behind the Edmonton Oilers.

"I feel like just every game, every practice, getting more comfortable," Connelly told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The 4-4 Raiders, third in the AFC West, face the 6-1 49ers on November 8 after a 38-33 comeback win over the Jets. Kirk Cousins completed 19 of 26 passes for 247 yards in that game. Running back Ashton Jeanty had just two carries for nine yards but made a key reception on the go-ahead drive.

"Ashton is still going to be a big part of our team," Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said. "He made a huge catch. He's going to be a huge part of our run game going forward."

These steps on development, culture, and in-game execution will determine how quickly the Athletics integrate in Las Vegas while the Knights and Raiders sustain their early momentum against stiff competition.
