TikTok Shop banned chance-based sales like spin wheels, blind grabs and mystery prizes that require payment, defining them as gambling. Free giveaways must use the official LIVE Giveaway tool with no purchase dependency. Enforcement includes account penalties and listing removals.
SCCG Take — The policy raises compliance costs for social commerce sellers and limits promotional creativity, favoring transparent formats over randomized tactics.
TikTok Shop has reinforced its restrictions on gambling-related activities. The platform bans sellers and creators from promoting betting, raffles, lotteries and other chance-based sales mechanisms in videos or livestreams. Users cannot be asked to pay before learning which product or prize they will receive, according to reporting by Focus Gaming News.
The policy defines gambling as any activity in which users provide money or something of value for the chance to win a prize. This includes paying to spin a wheel for a possible item, as well as casino-style games, wagers and lotteries. The restrictions apply even when creators do not interact with viewers or explicitly offer a prize. Sellers and creators cannot require payment before revealing the randomized product or gift.
Prohibited formats include blind grabs, lucky scoops, spin wheels, scratch cards, secret mystery prizes, oyster openings and sweepstakes entries. Lucky draws and games used to determine winners or products are also banned. Gambling-related language faces prohibition, including phrases such as “place your bets,” “strike it rich” and “zero-risk investment.” Claims presenting products as betting opportunities or financial investments are not permitted. The sale of gambling-related products, services and accessories is likewise barred.
Free giveaways must use TikTok Shop’s designated LIVE Giveaway tool. Entry cannot depend on a purchase. Sellers cannot use spins, wheels, draws or other games of chance to select winners or determine gifts. Purchase-based promotions such as buy-one-get-one offers must be clearly described in the product listing. The rules distinguish these requirements from compliant blind box products sold through standard listings.
TikTok Shop can impose deductions from a seller’s Account Health Rating, removal of product listings, refunds to customers and restrictions or withdrawal of access to selling permissions and platform features. These measures create direct operational exposure for non-compliant accounts. Sellers must therefore map every promotion against the stated criteria to protect listing status and account standing. The updated rules leave little room for borderline mechanics, requiring precise adherence to the approved tool set and language standards going forward.
