Jamie Gold, winner of the 2006 WSOP Main Event for $12 million, is driving a WSOP-Solana partnership. Players at next month's WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas can buy in with crypto via Solana Pay to avoid fees and lines. Gold calls it a game changer that saves time and money.

The World Series of Poker is partnering with Solana to let players buy into events using cryptocurrency via Solana Pay. The setup debuts next month at WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas and eliminates fees along with registration lines. Jamie Gold, the 2006 Main Event champion who took home $12 million, is spearheading the effort.

According to reporting by PokerNews, Gold described the partnership as "a game changer" that saves time and makes money. He made the comments in a video interview with Solana, tying the technology to his long-held views on efficiency and competition.

Gold's Competitive Roots and Personal Drive

Gold grew up in a gambling family. His grandfather was a gin rummy champion, and as a boy he played poker for candy at summer camp. "By the end of the summer I would have this trunk full of everyone's candy," Gold remembered. "I would just give it back to everybody. It was more about the competitive. I just wanted to win."

Years later, after his father received a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease, Gold pursued the Main Event. He invited 30 friends to watch, certain of victory. His father could not attend due to his health. Gold won the title and the $12 million prize. "As we get older, we realize that time is one of our most valuable commodities," Gold said. "Life is about time and how you spend it."

Efficiency Gains and the Value Delivered

Gold hosted a Solana Freeroll with crypto influencers in Las Vegas earlier this year. He connected that experience to the new WSOP arrangement. "My relationship with the World Series of Poker, my new relationship with Solana has given us an opportunity to help other people with a simple, clickable button," Gold told Solana. "The idea that I will never have to carry large amounts or any amount of cash changes my life."

"We used to have to wait online for four to six hours just to buy into a tournament," he said. "Now there are no more lines with the WSOP live app. The less time that we waste, the more value that we have in our life." Gold later spoke in depth about his 2006 run on the PokerNews Life Outside Poker podcast.

The partnership focuses on concrete operational improvements at the live event. It removes cash handling and cuts wait times, delivering measurable convenience for players who attend.
