The 76ers signed a multiyear deal making Kalshi their official prediction market partner, the first such NBA franchise agreement. It adds arena, app, and digital promotions to the NBA's league-wide Kalshi and Polymarket ties, which include IP use, ad rights, and CFTC information-sharing. The move occurs amid $14B weekend volumes but persistent regulatory and integrity scrutiny.

SCCG Take — This first-mover NBA team deal accelerates commercial integration of prediction markets in sports while exposing the unresolved federal-state regulatory tension that could be settled by a 2027 Supreme Court decision.

The Philadelphia 76ers have become the first NBA franchise to sign an official multiyear partnership with a prediction market operator. The agreement with Kalshi designates it as the team's official prediction market partner and grants promotional exposure across the arena, mobile application, ticketing services, and other digital channels. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal builds directly on the NBA's recent league-wide relationships with Kalshi and Polymarket. Those arrangements permit the platforms to use NBA intellectual property with league approval rights over offered markets, along with advertising opportunities during broadcasts and additional oversight provisions. The NBA separately reached an agreement with the CFTC on cooperation and information sharing, which includes restrictions on certain contract types and bars NBA and team personnel from trading league event contracts.

Partnership Focus on Fan Engagement

Owen Morin, the 76ers’ chief revenue officer of partnerships, said the agreement developed from the opportunity created by Kalshi’s new league-wide relationship with the NBA. “With Kalshi’s new league-wide relationship with the NBA, we saw an opportunity to build a first-of-its-kind team partnership focused on delivering new content, creativity and engagement for 76ers fans,” Morin said. He added that the parties found alignment on promotions reaching beyond the arena: “We found a lot of alignment on fan-engaging promotions. They wanted to come in and do some pretty cool stuff that’s going to hit not only fans in the arena but fans in Philadelphia in general.”

Initial activations include Kalshi-funded postgame SEPTA transportation for the Friday matchup against the New York Knicks, a poster series with local artists, free merchandise and concessions via the 76ers mobile app, and monthly fan voting on Top Plays of the Month. The 76ers already hold a commercial relationship with traditional sportsbook BetMGM. Individual player ties in the sector include LeBron James signing a $15 million annual endorsement agreement with Polymarket and Giannis Antetokounmpo becoming a Kalshi shareholder.

Regulatory Scrutiny and the Path to Clarity

Prediction market activity continues to draw regulatory attention and integrity questions. The NFL has supported state regulators in legal actions against these platforms, arguing federal oversight lacks equivalent consumer protections. Recent NBA cases, including the lifetime ban of Jontay Porter and Malik Beasley’s guilty plea, prompted the league to direct sportsbooks to remove certain player prop markets.

According to reporting by World Casino News, prediction markets recorded more than $14 billion in notional trading volume over the October 24-25 weekend, with Kalshi accounting for more than $10 billion. Sports represent approximately 80% of total activity. The legal disputes could set the boundaries for professional sports involvement, with a Supreme Court ruling on the core regulatory issues possible as early as 2027. Operators and leagues must therefore treat integrity safeguards and approval mechanisms as non-negotiable elements of any partnership structure going forward.
