SCCG Take — The Nevada debut gives operators a tested cashless option that cuts transaction steps. Further adoption hinges on securing parallel approvals in target jurisdictions.
Light & Wonder Inc has announced the first installation of its RapidPlay cashless payment system at Crystal Bay Casino in Nevada. The technology lets players move funds directly to a slot machine through a personal mobile device. As reported by GGRAsia, the deployment uses open banking to complete transfers.
RapidPlay is approved for use in Nevada. The supplier intends to expand into additional jurisdictions once it secures further regulatory approvals. Players activate the system by scanning a QR code. No separate application download or casino loyalty card is needed for the transaction.
The rollout at Crystal Bay Casino was completed in collaboration with payment service provider Koin. The arrangement marks the initial commercial use of the platform.
Muthu Palanichamy, Light & Wonder’s senior vice president and general manager for global systems, described the installation as a milestone in the company’s development of casino payment technology. “We’re proud to collaborate with Crystal Bay Casino to debut this solution and deliver a faster, more seamless experience for players while creating meaningful value for operators,” Palanichamy said.
Eric Roe, general manager at Crystal Bay Casino, stated: “Being the first casino to deploy RapidPlay reflects our commitment to embracing new technology that adds convenience for our guests.”
The system relies on a QR code scan to link a player’s mobile device to the slot machine. Funds transfer occurs through open banking connections. This removes the need for cash handling, loyalty cards, or dedicated apps at the point of play. The design targets faster transactions and reduced friction for both players and the operator. Light & Wonder and Koin configured the solution specifically for the Crystal Bay Casino environment.
Regulatory clearance in Nevada provides a foundation for planned growth. Light & Wonder will pursue approvals in other markets on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis. The Crystal Bay Casino installation supplies an operational reference point for those efforts. Both the supplier and the casino have indicated that the debut delivered the intended improvements in speed and convenience. Further deployments will depend on the pace of additional clearances.
