Jeju WanLi Casino will suspend operations October 31 to December 31 despite 200-300 daily customers since its September 2 soft launch. Officials cite likely internal management strife and financial difficulties; the grand opening remains pending. Jeju holds regulatory control over such foreigner-only venues since 2009.

SCCG Take — This swift post-launch halt exposes execution risks in Jeju's casino segment, where financial and management stability must precede opening to sustain operations under local oversight.

Jeju WanLi Casino, a foreigner-only gaming venue on South Korea's Jeju island, will suspend operations from October 31 until December 31 inclusive. The move occurs despite the property recording 200 to 300 customer visits daily since its soft launch on September 2.

A Jeju government official confirmed the suspension to GGRAsia. The official stated that the casino has filed a suspension notice for up to December 31 to the Jeju government but has not specified the exact reasons for suspension. GGRAsia has approached the casino’s management seeking comment.

Reasons for the Suspension

“The reasons for [Jeju] Wanli Casino’s operational suspension are likely ‘internal management strife’ and ‘financial difficulties’,” the Jeju government official noted. The casino recruited a significant number of employees ahead of its opening. A planned grand opening for mid-October has not yet taken place.

Property and Regulatory Background

The venue soft launched a day after the reopening of the refurbished Sheraton Jeju Hotel. It occupies the site of the former Gongzi Casino, which paused operations from early November 2024. An earlier separately-branded hotel at the location closed in early 2025.

Jeju WanLi Casino is operated by Gil Sang Chang Hui LLC. The entity appointed veteran gaming executive Vincent Loi as chief operating officer in August 2025. Loi served as associate senior vice president of international marketing at Hoiana Resort & Golf from May 2023 to November 2024.

Since 2009, Jeju has had certain elements of regulatory control over the island’s foreigner-only casino industry. The Jeju government confirmed the operator’s identity.
