1xCare and FEJAR signed a Memorandum of Partnership for gambling harm prevention in Spain. The deal targets online therapy access, education, and evidence-based practices under 1xCare’s Support and Well-Being pillar. All specific initiatives require separate agreements with strict independence and GDPR rules.

SCCG Take — This framework maintains clear separation between funding and therapeutic decisions, establishing a defensible model for industry-supported prevention efforts.

1xCare and Spain’s Federación Española de Jugadores de Azar Rehabilitados (FEJAR) have signed a Memorandum of Partnership to cooperate on the prevention and reduction of gambling-related harm. The agreement also covers improved access to appropriate support and the advancement of responsible gambling education and evidence-based practice, according to reporting by Yogonet International.

The collaboration falls under 1xCare’s Support and Well-Being pillar. 1xCare was set up to consolidate its work in research, education, technology, and player well-being under a single framework. FEJAR contributes experience in prevention as well as in support and assistance for people affected by gambling-related problems and their families.

Initial Focus on Online Therapy and Access

The first area of cooperation will center on FEJAR’s online therapy and support services. Both organizations intend to explore opportunities to support and improve access to these services. This includes people who face geographical or other barriers to in-person assistance.

Independence and Implementation Requirements

The memorandum places independence and safeguarding at the core of the collaboration. FEJAR retains full responsibility for its professional methods, therapeutic processes, and decisions about individual beneficiaries. Support through the partnership will not depend on the endorsement of any commercial product or operator. It will not be used for marketing or customer acquisition, and neither 1xCare nor any donor will gain access to beneficiaries or influence over individual care. Beneficiary confidentiality and data protection will remain in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Responsible gambling is a commitment that is non-negotiable and sits at the centre of everything the organization does. This partnership is built on independence and respect for FEJAR’s expertise. Its role is to help strengthen access to support for people affected by gambling-related harm, not to direct how that support is delivered.

The memorandum functions as a framework for cooperation. Any specific initiative, including funding, defined services, or the processing of personal data, will require a separate written agreement and proportionate due diligence, and it will also be subject to each organization’s governance procedures. The partnership is non-exclusive, so each organization remains independent.

“At FEJAR, we believe that preventing gambling-related harm requires a strong commitment to prevention, accessible support, and the well-being of affected individuals and their families,” said FEJAR President Gerardo Rodriguez Velo. “This partnership offers an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen access to support services , while safeguarding FEJAR’s professional independence and ensuring that the needs of beneficiaries remain at the centre of our work,” Velo added.

“1xCare is focused on demonstrable and meaningful change across all the responsible player protection touchpoints. We look forward to working alongside FEJAR and other organisations that share the goal of better protecting players,” Westbury said.
