SCCG Take — Early revenue doubling shows regulated market demand, but gradual operator onboarding limits scale. Regulators and licensees must track how the 3% allocation affects compliance costs and uptake.
Alberta’s regulated online gambling market generated C$122.1 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue during its first 80 days. Monthly revenue rose from C$22.2 million in July (the market launched on July 13) to C$43.3 million in August and C$56.6 million in September.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) released the figures on Friday. Online casinos accounted for C$42.8 million, or 75.6 per cent of September revenue. Sports betting generated C$11 million (19.5 per cent) and live casino contributed C$2.8 million. This marked the first published breakdown by vertical.
The province recorded 388,585 active player accounts in September, producing average revenue of C$146 per account. The market launched with 15 operators and reached 24 by September 30. The AiGC stated that the figures reflect the gradual entry of operators and do not yet represent the full market.
AiGC CEO Dan Keene said the results suggest that players value the oversight provided by a regulated market. Keene added that the corporation would continue educating and encouraging people to use regulated platforms. Alberta followed Ontario as the second Canadian province to introduce regulated online gambling with private operators.

A further 1 per cent funds social responsibility programmes, including mental health and addiction services and research. The reporting, as first reported by Focus Gaming News, underscores the early performance of the regulated model without indicating longer-term run rates.
