Article By Stephen Crystal – Founder & CEO, SCCG – SCHEDULE A MEETING!
As we pack our bags and return to Las Vegas, I want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible few days in Miami at SBC Summit Americas 2025. The energy was palpable. From beachfront meetups to packed panels, the event underscored just how fast the gaming industry continues to evolve—and how essential our role is in shaping that transformation.
Class II Mobile: From Concept to Rollout
One of the most exciting announcements came with the White Hat x Desert Diamond partnership in Arizona. This rollout marks real traction in bringing Class II mobile on-premise gaming to life—something we’ve long championed at SCCG. It’s not just a technology story; it’s about regulatory innovation, operational strategy, and respecting tribal sovereignty while ushering in new digital opportunities.
This model—designed specifically for tribes looking to modernize without sacrificing autonomy—was a major talking point at the Summit. And rightfully so. This isn’t speculative anymore. It’s operational.
Sweepstakes Still Running… But Hurdles Ahead
It’s clear that Sweepstakes gaming still commands strong momentum across the U.S., but state-by-state regulatory challenges are beginning to mount. The tone at SBC was not one of panic, but of recalibration. Operators are being pushed to evolve—fast. We’re now seeing smart investments into compliance infrastructure and partnerships that can help these platforms future-proof themselves for what’s next.
For those in the space, it’s time to move from workaround to longevity.
Prediction Markets: Regulatory Disruptor or Category Killer?
Kalshi and other predictive market platforms were a frequent mention across conversations—not just because of their innovative models, but because of their implications. Their presence looms as both a threat and a signal: gaming isn’t the only game in town anymore.
As regulators scramble to understand how to treat these platforms—are they trading? gambling? a new category entirely?—the opportunity for collaboration, education, and thought leadership has never been greater. For those of us advising in the regulated space, this is where attention is turning next.
iGaming Growth: Eyes on Ohio
While not making the biggest headlines, Ohio quietly emerged as the next frontier in iGaming expansion. Early signals, including legislative movement and increased operator interest, point to a state positioning itself for more than just sports betting. With a large sports fan base and an already-strong regulatory infrastructure, Ohio could soon rival more mature markets in the Northeast.
A Thank You to the Community
Beyond the panels and announcements, the real heartbeat of SBC Summit Americas is its people. From catching up with the team at Altenar—who hosted us at Booth C120 with their excellent “Stability Meets Flexibility” approach—to meeting exciting studios like UROC Studios, and reconnecting with client partners like PFC, mkodo, GeoLocs, Amusnet, and so many more, it was a reminder of the strength of our ecosystem.
Every handshake, every pitch, every panel—each was a step forward. Thank you to our global network of partners and friends for the energy, insights, and collaboration.
Until the next summit, onward and upward.
