The industry comes to Las Vegas this week, and ADVANTAGE, The Global Gambling Lifestyle Magazine, marks it with a G2E special edition. Issue #54, “The Chairman and the Show”, is about the people who built this business and the week it comes home.
The cover story honors D. W. “Dave” Barrick, whom SCCG Management named its Chairman Emeritus on 8 September. It opens on Friday 26 March 2004, the day after Barrick and Stephen Crystal took control of the Plaza, the Las Vegas Club, the Western and the Gold Spike. The two of them spent seventeen hours that day meeting almost every employee of the company. That day explains a partnership of nearly 35 years, and this week at G2E Stephen Crystal honors him in person.
“The Venetian Week” traces how the Global Gaming Expo began: its first edition opened on 1 October 2001, less than a month after September 11. Today the show fills the Venetian Expo, on the ground where the Sands once stood and where the Rat Pack played the Copa Room. This year’s show runs 28 September to 1 October.
“After the Hall Closes” is the insider’s guide to the week. The hall shuts at five, Nevada sets no last call, and the conversations that matter most happen after hours. As the issue puts it, the hall is where a company is found, and the week is where it is known.
