Wimbledon women’s final tips: Anisimova to make life tough

The women’s Wimbledon singles winner will be crowned on Saturday, when Amanda Anisimova goes up against Iga Swiatek at the All England Club.

Wimbledon women’s finalist Iga Swiatek is one match away from joining the ranks of players to have won Grand Slam singles titles on hard, clay and grass courts but the former world number one may face a battle royal when she meets Amanda Anisimova for the right to lift the Venus Rosewater Bowl.

The previous seven Wimbledons saw seven different players lifting the women’s singles trophy for the first time and that record will become eight this year when first-time All England Club finalists Swiatek meets Anisimova in the title match.

Swiatek is a pretty warm favourite due to having already won five major singles titles – four at the French Open in the last six years and one at the US Open in 2022 – but talented American Anisimova has long had the potential to succeed in the Slams so Swiatek may have to work hard to ditch that elusive grass-major maiden tag.

Wimbledon Women’s Final best bets

  • Amanda Anisimova to win at least one set @ 8/11

  • Over 20.5 total games @ 7/10

Swiatek no certainty to make a fast start

Most observers and market-makers are expecting Swiatek to make a fast start in her final clash with Anisimova, but the outsider has won all six of the opening sets she has contested at Wimbledon this year so punters should tread carefully.

Recent bias means that many folk will have seen Swiatek’s 6-2 6-0 semi-final demolition and expect the Pole to hush Anisimova convincingly early on.

But Swiatek is the only one of the pair to have lost an opening set at Wimbledon this year – against Anisimova’s compatriot Caty McNally in round two – and so it’s no certainty that the former world number one will dominate from the outset.

Therefore, punters can consider backing Anisimova with a handicap start of 4.5 games, but slight preference is for the outsider winning at least a set.

Anisimova needs to win one of the first two sets for the bet to profit and even if she does come up short in the opener, this option allows her plenty of time to get settled into her first major singles final.

Tip 1: Amanda Anisimova to win at least one set @ 8/11

Chance of healthy games tally may be better than expected

For anyone requiring a second punting option on the women’s final, it could pay to back over 20.5 total games in the clash.

This would have a chance to win even if Swiatek was to win the first set tidily – for example, 6-3 or 6-2. But given Anisimova’s record of not losing her first set in this year’s women’s singles, we may even see a tight opening set which could increase the likelihood of this bet winning.

Only one of Swiatek’s singles victories at Wimbledon this year has exceeded 20.5 games in total – unsurprisingly, that was her three-setter against McNally. But the Pole’s highest-rated victim has been 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova, so she has clearly enjoyed a comfortable passage through the draw.

Anisimova surprised top seed Aryna Sabalenka in her latest singles outing in the semi-finals and so the 13th seed may make life tougher for eighth seed Swiatek in their first competitive career clash.

Tip 2: Over 20.5 total games @ 7/10
