The New York Jets have secured a four-year, $120.4 million contract extension with standout cornerback Sauce Gardner, solidifying his status as the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history with an average annual salary of $30.1 million. This agreement guarantees Gardner $85.653 million and was announced on Tuesday. Gardner expressed gratitude on social media, thanking the Jets, his teammates, and supporters.
This deal places Gardner above Houston Texans’ Derek Stingley, who signed a three-year, $90 million extension in March and was drafted just one spot ahead of Gardner in 2022. Gardner is the first Jet since CJ Mosley in 2019 to become the highest-paid player at his position.
This signing follows another major contract within 24 hours, with wide receiver Garrett Wilson getting a four-year extension through the 2030 season. These moves are part of the new leadership efforts by general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn to revitalize the team.
Gardner quickly established himself as an elite player, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 and first-team All-Pro honors in his first two seasons. Despite a challenging 2024 season due to hamstring injuries, Gardner still recorded 49 tackles, nine pass breakups, and an interception.
