The summer transfer window has been open for over a month and Premier League clubs are wasting no time in getting their business done. Indeed, it has already been a very busy period for transfers across the board in the English top division.
Over $1 billion has been spent on new signings with another month-and-a-half of the window left. As things stand, though, which team has won the summer transfer window? Here is a ranked list of the top five.
1 – Liverpool
Liverpool acted quickly to fill some areas of need this summer. They paid $30m to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, giving Arne Slot a new right back after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid with the Netherlands international known for his attacking ability and mobility up and down the wing.
Florian Wirtz arrived for a Premier League-record fee of $125m and will give Liverpool a different dimension in the attacking third while Milos Kerkez has joined from Bournemouth as the long-term replacement for Andy Robertson. The defending champions’ squad looks to be strong ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
2 – Manchester City
It became clear last season that Manchester City had reached the end of a cycle, but the Etihad Stadium outfit have moved quickly to rebuild their squad. The process that started in the January transfer window has continued this summer with over $150m spent on three new additions that should make a profound difference.
Rayan Cherki was signed from Lyon to give Pep Guardiola another option in the attacking third while Tijani Reijnders has arrived from AC Milan as the most obvious replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. Rayan Ait-Nouri was also captured from Wolves to give Manchester City a more orthodox left back than Guardiola has used in recent seasons.
3 – Chelsea
Chelsea won the Club World Cup by beating Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final with two new summer signings playing a role in the triumph. Those players were Joao Pedro who scored the third goal in the 3-0 win and Liam Delap who came off the bench in the second half to give the Blues threat on the break in quick transition.
Jamie Gittens has joined from Borussia Dortmund, signalling Chelsea’s determination to land a new right-footed left winger ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The Blues could still move for a new goalkeeper with Mike Maignan targeted before the start of the Club World Cup. The world champions are stronger now than they were before the summer.
4 – Tottenham Hotspur
Thomas Frank has been hired to reshape Tottenham Hotspur in his own image and that process has started over the summer. Mohamed Kudus has made the move to North London from West Ham with the Ghanaian primed to perform the same role for Tottenham that Bryan Mbeumo did for Frank at Brentford on the right wing.
Morgan Gibbs-White is also expected to join Spurs from Nottingham Forest after personal terms were agreed with the England international last week. Those two signings alone significantly upgrade Tottenham’s attacking line. One wonders what Ange Postecoglou makes of such impressive additions being made.
5 – Arsenal
Arsenal have finished second in each of the last three Premier League seasons. However, the hope at the Emirates Stadium is that they have signed the players this summer to help them take the next step with Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard in the door early in time for pre-season to begin.
Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres could join them in signing for Arsenal with the pair reportedly close to putting pen to paper. Madueke would give Mikel Arteta another option on the right wing while Gyokeres is the sort of orthodox centre forward many believe the Gunners have needed for a long time.
