In the offseason kickoff, the New York Jets created a buzz by trading pass rusher Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.
This player-for-player trade is set to be finalized when the league year officially starts on March 11.
Johnson expressed his gratitude to the Jets and their fans on social media.
“New York, thank you for everything truly. The love I’ve been shown here for the past 4-5 years has been nothing short of amazing, both on and off the field,” Johnson wrote on X. “Y’all will always hold a special place in my heart. Wish all of my former coaches and former teammates the best!! Thank all of y’all for sharing a battlefield with me.”
The Jets’ decision to trade Johnson seems to be influenced by his underperformance in 2025, where he achieved only three sacks. He has a fifth-year option in his rookie contract, offering him $13.4 million next season.
Conversely, the Jets acquire Sweat with his cap-friendly contract extending through the 2027 season, having a 2026 cap hit of just $ 1.7 million. In 29 games with the Titans, he recorded 85 total tackles and three sacks.

New York seems to be moving towards a complete rebuild after unloading key players before last season’s trade deadline by trading Pro Bowlers Quinnen Williams and Sauce Garner, earning them extra first-round picks.
