Last Player Standing is a betting competition where a group of people each put in a stake and predict one team to win in a competition each week.
If that team wins, the player progresses into the next round. A draw or defeat sees them eliminated.
Each team can only be picked once throughout the game – for example, if you pick Arsenal in the first week, you cannot pick them again until the overall winner is eventually decided.
The goal is to be the final player at the end, with the winner taking the full pot of money.
This weekend is the FA Cup fourth round, and there are plenty of all-Premier League affairs with the likes of Liverpool facing Brighton and Hove Albion, and Aston Villa hosting Newcastle United.
This week’s best Last Player Standing tip: Man City
It would be wise to look at a team that has a favourable fixture, and none seem better than Manchester City, who are hosting League Two side Salford City at the Etihad Stadium.
Bookmakers have priced this up at around 1/25 for a City victory, making them seem like the obvious choice if you haven’t used them so far.
In the last round, Pep Guardiola took no prisoners as his side dismantled League One minnows Exeter City 10-1, so it’s unlikely that there will be a giant killing in this encounter.
Salford, owned by Gary Neville and co, will be right up for the game, given the local ties, but it’s just hard to envisage them laying a glove on the Premier League giants.
No other team is shorter than City to win in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend, so go with them if you can.
MFT’s top Last Player Standing pick: Man City
Unsurprisingly, we are going to also stick with the Cityzens for many of the reasons listed above.
Arsenal, who are 1/12 to beat Wigan Athletic on Sunday, were also tempting and perhaps are the second-best choice this weekend.
City do have an injury concern to Erling Haaland, which may put some people off, but he didn’t even score in the 45 minutes he had during their 10-1 drubbing of Exeter.
You can put the faith in the likes of Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush to get the job done in attack instead.
