New York bettors maintained their streak of exceeding $2 billion in monthly sports wagers, with January 2026 marking the sixth consecutive month above this threshold. Data from the New York State Gaming Commission shows that nearly all bets were placed through online sportsbooks.
FanDuel and DraftKings continued to dominate the market, capturing nearly 70% of all wagers statewide during the month.
Breaking Down New York Sports Betting Numbers in January
In January, New Yorkers wagered $2.45 billion online, while retail sportsbooks handled just $4.6 million, highlighting the digital dominance in New York’s betting market. Sportsbook revenue reached $260.2 million, with $132.5 million going to the state in tax revenue.
January continued New York’s run of $2 billion-plus months. Only three months last year—February, June, and July—fell below this level, and even those months were close to the benchmark.
Year-over-year, total handle slightly declined, down 1.6% from January 2025. This decrease was anticipated, given last January’s 26.6% year-over-year increase, which was tough to match.
Revenue, however, painted a different picture. January 2026 sportsbook revenue was slightly below the all-time record set in the previous month, totaling $260.2 million compared to December’s $260.36 million. The highest handle on record for New York remains October 2025, with nearly $2.65 billion wagered.
