New York bettors continued their streak of posting more than $2 billion in monthly sports wagers, with January 2026 extending the trend into a sixth consecutive month above that threshold. According to data released by the New York State Gaming Commission, nearly all of that activity once again came through online sportsbooks.
FanDuel and DraftKings maintained their dominant positions in the market, accounting for nearly 70% of all wagers placed statewide during the month.
Breaking Down New York Sports Betting Numbers in January
New Yorkers wagered $2.45 billion online in January, while retail sportsbooks handled just $4.6 million, reinforcing how overwhelmingly digital New York’s betting market has become. Sportsbook revenue totaled $260.2 million, with $132.5 million flowing back to the state in tax revenue.
January marked another chapter in New York’s sustained run of $2 billion-plus months. There were only three months last year in which handle fell below that level, February, June, and July, and even those months came close to the benchmark.
On a year-over-year basis, total handle dipped slightly, down 1.6% from January 2025. That decline was largely expected, as last January delivered a 26.6% year-over-year increase, a pace that was always going to be difficult to repeat.
Revenue, however, told a different story. January 2026 sportsbook revenue came just shy of the all-time record set one month earlier, finishing at $260.2 million, narrowly below December’s $260.36 million. New York’s highest handle on record remains October 2025, when bettors wagered nearly $2.65 billion.
