Saturday’s football tips: Charlton card machine Bree 5/1 to go into the book against Chelsea

It’s FA Cup third round weekend and some Premier League clubs have tricky games on the road today as they bid to avoid suffering a shock.

Liam Rosenior takes charge for the first time at Chelsea and Championship side Charlton will be out to make it a baptism of fire at the Valley.

The Blues have gone five games without a win in all competitions and could be a little vulnerable in what has the potential to be a spicy London derby.

Charlton vs Chelsea top betting tips

Big clubs often rest star players for domestic cup ties so it will be interesting to see what kind of team Rosenior picks.

With it being his first game, I’d imagine he will go quite strong so it’s easy to see why the Blues are a best 4/9 at Coral.

Charlton’s form is even worse than Chelsea’s, with the Addicks winning just one of their last 11 matches, but they will try to knock the Premier League side out of their stride.

Midfielder James Bree has three yellows in his last three outings and seven for the season. So the 5/1 on offer at Bet365 for him to go into the book looks pretty generous.

Charlton have won five or more corners in their last five matches and that makes over 3.5 home corners another decent option today at evens with Bet365.

Macclesfield Town vs Crystal Palace

FA Cup holders Crystal Palace start the defence of their trophy with a David v Goliath tie against National League side Macclesfield Town.

The Eagles haven’t been at their best in the last couple of months and head into this tie on an eight-game run without defeat.

It could be an uncomfortable tie in poor weather conditions so it’s all about getting the job done in any way possible.

Macclesfield aren’t having a great season and sit 14th in the National League so it’s easy to see why they are 11/1 rank outsiders. Palace are just 1/4 but adding on under 3.5 goals boosts the odds to 11/8 with Betway.

Palace new boy Brennan Johnson will be desperate to get off the mark and this tie gives him the perfect chance. The former Spurs star is 6/4 at Paddy Power for anytime scorer and that looks pretty good.

Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth

There’s a few FA Cup ties between Premier League sides today and the pick of those games looks like Newcastle’s clash against Bournemouth.

Both teams head into this game on a high after scoring last-gasp winners in thrilling midweek league games.

The Cherries beat Spurs 3-2 on the south coast while the Magpies scored twice in stoppage-time to seal a 4-3 victory over Leeds.

Sod’s law dictates that this cup tie will now be a 0-0 draw, which pays 14/1 at Bet365, but it should be another good watch provided both managers field pretty strong sides.

The bookies certainly think so and combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals pays just 20/21 with Bet365.

I’d imagine both teams will make a few changes after such draining games in midweek. Yoane Wissa could return up front for Newcastle and he’s 11/8 at Bet365 for anytime scorer. The same firm price him at 20/21 to score or assist.

Super singles

  • Charlton’s James Bree to be carded 5/1 Bet365
  • Brennan Johnson anytime scorer 6/4 Paddy Power
  • Yoane Wissa anytime scorer 11/8 Bet365
