Celtic and Hearts are both odds-on favourites to maintain their title charge tonight, but they face tricky challenges.
The return of Martin O’Neill after the Wilfried Nancy farce saw him revert to a back four and, hey presto, they promptly went out and demolished Dundee United.
But they face a real test tonight at flying Falkirk aim for what would be their fourth win in five Premiership games.
Celtic are 1/2 to win, but it would take a brave punter to steam in at those odds, given their dismal away record this season. Here’s our preview.
They have already lost four of their ten away games in the Premiership this season and that’s diabolical for a club of Celtic’s stature.
And remarkably, despite being halfway through the transfer window, they have still been unable to make any much-needed recruitments as title challengers Hearts and Rangers beef up their squads with significant arrivals.
You need to go back 19 years for a previous Falkirk home win over Celtic…and current veteran Hoops keeper Kasper Schmeichel was playing on loan for the Bairns and even saved a penalty from Craig Beattie!
But you would think Celtic under O’Neill are a very different animal and he will sort out a leaky and confidence-lacking defence.
John McGlynn’s side are very well organised and seven of their last eight games has seen under 2.5 goals.
And the last time both teams scored in a match involving Falkirk was on November 8.
So the call is a narrow Celtic win – take a chance on an away win and under 2.5 goals at 13/4 with McBookie.com.
Hearts vs St Mirren prediction
Hearts collected an enormous three points on Sunday at Dundee when they had to play for a half with ten men after keeper Alexander Schwolow was sent off.
Scotland keeper Craig Gordon replaced him and pulled off a stunning injury time save to win Hearts the points…at the age of 43.
They face a St Mirren side who appear to have partied non-stop since beating Celtic to win the Premier Sports Cup and a match preview is here.
Their league form is in freefall and it’s very puzzling given they have a decent squad.
Again, the 1/2 is too short for Hearts who are having to dig deep to keep up their title charge.
An interesting bet is McBookie.com’s 19/20 for St Mirren to win over 3.5 corners. They will probably have to chase the game at some stage and Tynecastle is a tight venue.
St Mirren have won at least four corners in their last eight games including at Rangers and Motherwell.
