NFL Distances Itself from Giants’ Steve Tisch, Yet Questions Persist – SCCG Management

The optimal approach to investigate is to create conditions where it’s unnecessary.

This is where the situation concludes with the NFL, the former Giants co-owner Steve Tisch, and his over 400 appearances in the Jeffrey Epstein documents. Commissioner Roger Goodell stated the league investigated Tisch’s connections to the deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, “but we have not found anything that’s a violation at this stage.”

Interestingly, Tisch and his siblings no longer own shares after transferring them into their children’s trusts. Farewell!

Goodell’s full remarks from his Tuesday press conference at the NFL owners meeting in Phoenix:

“As we said, we were going to follow the facts. We have been doing that. We’ve been very focused on making sure we understand everything that’s out there. We’ve engaged with others to make sure we have that information. As you know, the Tisch family also made some family changes. Steve and Jon (Tisch) and Laurie (Tisch) actually did some transactions as part of their estate planning. They’re no longer owners. But we have not found anything that’s a violation at this stage.”

Shameless, but not unexpected.

The NFL (and the Giants) were upfront that Tisch would not be held accountable. The Hollywood producer knowingly associated with a sex offender and child trafficker, using him to meet much younger women. He conversed about these women with Epstein using offensive language and repeatedly inquired if some were prostitutes. His weak statement when the story first emerged was accepted, while the Mara family remained quiet, and Goodell, Giants coach John Harbaugh, and general manager Joe Schoen provided vague legal jargon while a portion of the press ignored or aided Tisch. Now, he’s a fan with substantial wealth.

However — a few questions persist:

1) Will the Tisches retain their board positions? Likely not. Allowing Tisch to keep his roles would perpetuate the story. Goodell clearly considers the matter closed.

2) What will the next generation of Tisches bring? Forty-five percent of a major franchise is now managed by unknown individuals. Will Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, the key owner of Gotham FC, become the family’s new representative?

3) What’s happening with the Maras? Co-owner John Mara unexpectedly attended the owners meeting amid his cancer battle. Brother Chris Mara was also present. Neither spoke to journalists. Eventually, someone from ownership must clarify the future state of affairs.

4) What if more details emerge about Tisch and Epstein? Tisch may be summoned by Congress if further Epstein hearings occur. The public might not pardon the NFL and Giants even if he’s officially no longer associated with the club.
