Centre-back reflects on his resurgence at Old Trafford and his strong World Cup ambition for England
Harry Maguire faced another injury setback as Manchester United struggled under Ruben Amorim, seemingly stuck in a cycle of repetition. Deploying a 3-4-2-1 formation with Bruno Fernandes in a deep role and leaving Casemiro exposed proved ineffective time and again.
At the beginning of January, Maguire was focused on regaining his fitness after being sidelined for two months. He aimed for consistent playtime and game rhythm following an inconsistent season. The idea of rejoining the England squad seemed unrealistic, let alone considering the World Cup. It appeared Maguire would remain at 64 international appearances, the most recent being against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin in September 2024.
