Key Storylines
Navy enters the American Athletic Conference opener after a convincing 52‑7 win over VMI. The Midshipmen ran all over the Keydets and will try to produce in a similar fashion against their first FBS opponent of the year. UAB defeated Alabama State 52‑42 in a high‑scoring affair that highlighted the Blazers’ offensive firepower and defensive vulnerabilities. Both teams scored 52 points in their first game but they looked very different on defense and that is expected to be the key to this game.
Quarterback Play
UAB’s Jalen Kitna completed 18 of 23 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers in Week 1. He is expected to be the inferior quarterback in this matchup against Navy’s Blake Horvath. Horvath only threw the ball seven times against VMI and completed six of those pass attempts. We saw him tear up opposing defenses last year and will likely be fine if he has to put the ball in the air more often in this game.

- Navy covered the spread in Week 1 and UAB failed to cover the spread in their Week 1 FCS matchup.
- Both teams went over the total in their season openers against inferior opponents.
- Navy is 2-0 all-time against UAB. Those wins came in 2023 and 2024 and the Midshipmen won both of those games by over 20 points.

Final Thoughts
Navy’s physical dominance and superior defense should make this a pretty straightforward win for them. Horvath will continue to impress both through the air and on the ground for the Midshipmen and the UAB defense will struggle after giving up over 40 points to a low-level FCS team last week. I’ll lay the points with Navy in what should be a lopsided matchup in the AAC.
