Key Storylines

  • Rivalry renewed: This marks the first meeting since 2011 in the historic Border War rivalry. This might not be the best game of the weekend in college football in terms of on-field quality. But it could be the best in terms of it being an interesting rivalry game during non-conference play.
  • Home-field edge: Missouri plays in front of its home crowd at Faurot Field this week. They have played very well at home in recent seasons and will look to continue that trend this weekend.
  • Litmus Test: Both teams have looked explosive on offense so far this year. But those games came against inferior competition and this will be the first test for both teams against power conference competition in 2025.

Quarterback Play

Kansas: Jalon Daniels has been sensational through two games. He has completed 36 of 45 attempts for 456 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception. His ability to sling the ball and extend plays makes him a major threat. But he could regress on the road against a better team than he’s faced in the first two weeks.

Missouri: Beau Pribula has stepped in following Sam Horn’s injury. His dual-threat capability adds a different dimension to Mizzou’s offense. But his decision-making will be tested by a Kansas defense that led the Big 12 in fewest rushing touchdowns allowed last year. The Jayhawks will try to force Pribula to beat them.

  • Missouri is 1-0 against the spread so far this season.
  • Kansas is 1-1 against the spread through its first two games.
  • Missouri leads the all-time series between these teams but the margin is slim. Mizzou is 57-54-9 against the Jayhawks all-time. The Tigers won the last matchup between these rivals in 2011.

Kansas vs Missouri Model Projection

  • Score Projection: Missouri 31 – Kansas 24
  • Win Probability: Missouri 68%, Kansas 32%

Final Thoughts

Kansas has looked good so far this season. But their two wins came at home against one FCS team and one Mountain West team. This is a big step up in level of competition for the Jayhawks and it comes on the road. I don’t see that ending well for Kansas on Saturday. I’ll lay the points with Mizzou in the 2025 Border War.
