San Diego aims to hold their top spot in the Western Conference early Sunday morning as they visit Soldier Field to face Chicago Fire in a match where I’m backing the hosts to score at least twice.
June was excellent for San Diego, marked by a 2-0 home win against Austin FC, followed by three straight away victories over Minnesota United (1-4), Vancouver Whitecaps (3-5), and FC Dallas (2-3).
However, they began July with a defeat, losing 3-4 at home to Houston Dynamo despite leading 3-2 in the 85th minute, thwarting last Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Nonetheless, that was only SDFC’s second loss in their last 11 MLS games (W8-D1-L2), and they head to Soldier Field with wins in their last three and four of their last five away matches.
The Fire suffered their third loss in their last four MLS matches last weekend, falling 2-1 away to Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati.
Gregg Berhalter’s team did secure a 3-2 home win against Charlotte FC in their last match at Soldier Field, but it marked only their second win at home this season, with losses in three of their last six (W2-D1-L3).

I successfully backed San Diego to score at least twice in their recent away match at FC Dallas two weeks ago, and I see no reason to change my strategy here.
Mikey Varas’s team leads MLS in scoring, with 44 goals in their first 21 games, half of which (22) were scored on the road.
SDFC has scored 2+ goals in 14 (67%) of their MLS games this season, including nine of their last 11 and 12 of their last 16, as well as seven out of ten (70%) of their away matches. I’m backing their potent attack to score another double against a Fire defense that has only achieved two clean sheets and has conceded 36 goals this season, allowing 2+ goals in three of their last four.
