Yankees Break Long Drought, Beat Angels 7-3 | AmNewYork – SCCG Management

The New York Yankees broke a six-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels, ending their offensive drought and scoring their most runs since June 11. Previously, they had managed only seven runs over seven games, a slump only matched twice in Yankees history. Carlos Rodon struck out seven over six innings, despite allowing three solo homers, to secure the win.

Mike Trout hit his 12th homer, but the Yankees responded in the first inning when Paul Goldschmidt doubled, Cody Bellinger hit an infield single, and Giancarlo Stanton drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Jo Adell’s home run gave the Angels a 2-1 lead, but a rain delay sparked the Yankees, as DJ LeMahieu singled and Trent Grisham and Goldschmidt hit back-to-back homers for a 4-2 lead.

Both pitchers settled down until Taylor Ward’s 19th homer cut the lead. Grisham doubled and Bellinger’s single extended the lead to 5-3. Jonathan Loaisiga preserved the lead with defensive help from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and LeMahieu. Trout singled, but Ward grounded out, ending the threat.

Aaron Judge doubled in the eighth, Stanton walked, and after another rain delay, Chisholm Jr. bunted to load the bases. Anthony Volpe drove in a run, and Austin Wells’ sacrifice fly made it 7-3. Bellinger went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Grisham had two hits, including a homer and a double, with two RBIs. Goldschmidt and Chisholm Jr. each had two hits.

Mark Leiter Jr. and Loaisiga pitched scoreless innings, and Devin Williams closed the game with three strikeouts. The win set up the Yankees for a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
