Karl Burke is known for his exploits with his two-year-olds and there’s a fair chance NAVAL LIGHT will be another to emerge himself as an above-average juvenile. Debutant winner AFJAN is another to take seriously in the opener.

15.05 King George V Stakes
William Haggas has an excellent 24% strike rate at this course in the last two years with his three-year-olds in handicaps and that could well be enhanced with MERCHANT in the King George V Stakes. GUNSHIP and OMNI MAN could also run very well.

15.40 Ribblesdale Stakes
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL has been unfortunate to bump into two possible top-class opponents the last twice since winning on debut and has strong claims for her in-form stable. Paddy and Billy enjoyed a good winner yesterday with Carmers and have a nice chance with CATALINA DELCARPIO.

16.20 Gold Cup
TRAWLERMAN gave the undisputed champion Kyprios a mighty scare twelve months ago and remains the last horse to have beaten the great stayer. He warmed up for this with a dominant victory in the Henry II Stakes three weeks ago and is at the peak of his powers to go one place better than last year.

17.00 Britannia Stakes
SHOUT no doubt would have won that race here last time comfortably with a better getaway and the handicapper has surprisingly left his mark unchanged. Connections change the headgear and a strongly run race should be right up his street. LA BOTTE ran a great race when fourth in a Listed race last time out when racing on the unfavoured part of the course. RAAFEDD is also worth a second look.

17.35 Hampton Court Stakes
DETAIN appreciated the step up in trip when third in the French 2000 Derby last time out and he’s dropping down markedly in class. Below Group 1 level he’s unbeaten and I think he has an outstanding chance of taking the spoils.
