Offside Rule Altered Due to Efforts of Swedish Third-tier Club - SCCG Management

Torns IF employed ‘gentle persistence’ to prompt action from officials
Ifab addresses offside loophole with clarification on ‘delayed’ pass

A Swedish third-tier team has influenced a revision of football’s laws through their “gentle persistence” in examining an offside loophole, compelling officials to take action.

Football’s rule-making authority, the International Football Association Board (Ifab), has revised the wording of the offside law to specify when an offside evaluation should occur. This change follows input from Torns IF, a club based in the small town of Stångby near Malmö, who questioned whether a player could circumvent the offside rule by maintaining the ball balanced on their foot.
