Stephen Curry to Miss Time with Hamstring Injury, Return Timeline Unclear
The Golden State Warriors will be without their star point guard Stephen Curry for at least a week after he suffered a left hamstring strain during the first half of Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.
Curry, a two-time NBA MVP, had never previously dealt with a muscle strain in his career. While the team confirmed he will be sidelined for a minimum of one week, there’s no definite timetable for his return.
“You literally just take it a game at a time,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said on Wednesday. “I know there’s a three-day break between Games 5 and 6 and people are thinking maybe he could return then, but we just can’t afford to think that far ahead. Steph will be back when he’s ready. Right now, we’re focused on tomorrow’s game.”
The Warriors are proceeding with caution as they navigate the series without their floor leader. They struggled in Game 2 without Curry, suffering a 117-93 defeat on Thursday night.
Curry is confirmed to be out for Saturday’s home game, which could prove pivotal in the series. A win for Minnesota would give them a commanding grip on the best-of-seven matchup. In Curry’s absence, Golden State is looking for someone to step up offensively—namely Jimmy Butler.
Butler contributed 17 points and seven rebounds in the Game 2 loss, while Jonathan Kuminga led the team with 18 points. The Warriors will need more production across the board if they hope to stay competitive while Curry recovers.
His status remains day-to-day, with his return dependent on how quickly he progresses through treatment and rehabilitation.
