We’ve reached the final stages of this EFL Championship season – the playoffs. With Leeds and Burnley already claiming their spot in the Premier League for next season, only one spot remains, and four teams will battle for it during these playoffs.
Speaking of which, we’ve provided our thoughts on who will achieve that goal. All will be revealed here, but to start with, here’s a closer look at the four teams in the playoffs and the EFL Championship promotion odds at this time.
Best EFL Championship promotion odds
For clarity, the odds for EFL Championship promotion are totally different from the EFL Championship winner odds. Of course, these describe two different markets, as three teams gain promotion, while only one can win the league.
This season, both Leeds and Burnley have collected 100 points, but Leeds have been crowned the champions due to a better goal difference.
Meanwhile, four teams remain in the battle for promotion to the Premier League and these are the current odds:

A closer look at the Championship playoffs
Ahead of the first leg of the playoffs, let’s take a closer look at each team and their chances of reaching the Premier League.
Sheffield United
As one of the the teams that was in the race for direction promotion until the final few rounds of this Championship season, Sheffield United enter the playoffs as the main favourites to secure promotion, with odds of 6/4.
In the end, after losing four of their last seven matches in the league, the Blades have finished the season 10 points behind Leeds and Burnley, but also 14 points ahead of the next team in the standings, Sunderland.
Sunderland
While Sunderland were at one point among the main candidates for promotion, they couldn’t keep up the pace with the three teams ahead of them and they have ended the season on a particularly bad run, losing five in a row.
That’s certainly not a great sign going into the playoffs, but Sunderland are still the second favourites to earn promotion, behind Sheffield United, although their opponents in the semi-finals Coventry are close by and on some betting sites even have the same odds.
Coventry
Just like the other teams in the playoffs, Coventry also haven’t been in an amazing form to close the season, losing twice in a row before winning in the last round to secure their place.
That being said, Coventry have certainly done better lately then Sunderland, so this should be a very interesting matchup and a closely fought battle.
Bristol City
Despite only winning one point in their last three games of the season, Bristol City somehow survived in the playoff zone, finishing sixth in the standings.
Obviously, they are the biggest outsiders when we look at the odds, especially since they’ll have to go through Sheffield United if they want to reach Wembley and the final game of the playoffs. Considering they’ve ended the season 22 points behind the Blades, their chances of success perfectly correspond with the high odds.
Our verdict on EFL Championship promotion
As always in the Championship playoffs, the third and final promotion spot is truly anyone’s guess.
That being said, Sheffield United have proven this season that they’re way ahead of the other three teams in the playoffs and despite their poor form at the finish line, we can see them getting promoted in the end.
