The quest for Tennis’ second Grand Slam of the season is already underway at Roland Garros. The top men and women are vying for the coveted title, and this year marks the first French Open since the King of Clay Rafael Nadal retired. The men’s draw is a two man race in the minds of oddsmakers, while the women’s draw has a couple more viable contenders at the top.

Men’s French Open Odds

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is the men’s favorite at +110, edging out World No. 1 Jannik Sinner at +200. The Italian has won each of the past two Grand Slams, and three of the last five. He’s played just one tournament since the Australian Open due to a doping suspension, but did reach the final on clay in Rome before falling to Alcaraz. We’ve already seen a massive upset early on, as #4 seed Taylor Fritz fell in the opening round.

Men’s French Open Picks

  • Novak Djokovic to Win +1400

Back to Alcaraz, who sports a 15-1 record on clay this season. The 22-year-old has reached the final in all three of his clay court tournaments so far, winning twice. He sat out Madrid with a hamstring injury, but he’s reportedly back to 100%. Alcaraz has much more experience on clay this season than Sinner, but there are some red flags.

He’s lost nine times to players outside of the top-10 in the past year. I can’t possibly lay +110 on him to run though an entire field, when he’s much more likely than Sinner to lose early on. Speaking of Sinner, he’s 41-0 against players outside the top-10 over the same time frame. Alcaraz also has a tougher draw than the Italian, with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud looming.

That being said, I wouldn’t rush to bet Sinner at such a short number either. Rust is going to be a factor with him. Sure, he made it to the final is his first tournament back, but those matches were best-of-threes. Let’s see how he fares in 5-setters.

That leaves Djokovic as my favorite pick, largely due to the value his +1400 odds present. Joker has two of the past four French Opens, and beat Alcaraz on these very courts to claim the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. He won his last clay court tournament in Geneva, and has the most Grand Slam victories in history.

Women’s French Open Odds

On the women’s side, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is the favorite at +275, followed closely by defending champ Iga Swiatek at +300. Of the two, Sabalenka is in better form reaching the final in four of her past five tournaments. I’m going to bypass both her and Swiatek however, targeting American Coco Gauff instead.

Women’s French Open Best Bets

  • Coco Gauff to Win (+500)

Gauff was the runner-up at Roland Garros last year, and has reached the final in two of her three clay court events this season. She’s 10-2 on clay in 2025, waxing Swiatek 6-1, 6-1 the last time they met. Gauff has already beaten a handful of the top seeds on clay this year, and was the doubles champion at the French Open last year.

Coco Gauff’s Best Grand Slam Singles Finishes

She’s been training on clay courts since she was 10, and is on the cusp of a breakthrough. I’ll gladly take her at +500 as my best bet, knowing she’ll avoid Sabalenka until the final.
