The Denver Nuggets have officially named David Adelman as their new head coach, swiftly filling the role after parting ways with longtime coach Michael Malone.
Adelman had been serving as the interim head coach in the final stretch of the regular season following Malone’s departure. Under his guidance, the team closed out the season with three consecutive victories and advanced to the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated. His leadership during that brief stint was enough to earn him the full-time position moving forward.
Team president and governor Josh Kroenke emphasized that while the head coaching vacancy has been resolved, the search for a new general manager is still ongoing. It’s been only a few weeks since the organization decided to part ways with both Malone and general manager Calvin Booth, signaling a broader shift in the franchise’s direction.
Kroenke admitted that the timing of the coaching change may have surprised many but believes it was necessary to reset the organization.
“I think that there was perhaps some confusion and some doubt over the decision-making, especially the timing of it, which I completely understand,” said Kroenke. “But I am very proud of the way the group came together under some very difficult circumstances, and I am proud to say I thought we squeezed a little bit more out of the season than the direction we were heading six weeks ago.”
Looking ahead to the offseason, Denver’s primary objective will be reshaping the roster to better support superstar center Nikola Jokic and rekindle the team’s championship aspirations. Alongside finding a new general manager, building a more well-rounded unit remains a crucial step in keeping the Nuggets competitive in the Western Conference.
