The Denver Nuggets have officially named David Adelman as their new head coach, swiftly filling the vacancy left after parting ways with Michael Malone near the end of the regular season.
Adelman stepped into the interim role following Malone’s departure and guided the team to three consecutive wins to close out the regular season, ultimately helping the Nuggets reach the second round of the playoffs. His performance earned him the full-time position as the organization looks to take a new direction.
Despite settling the coaching role, the Nuggets are still in search of a new general manager. Team president and governor Josh Kroenke acknowledged that the front office remains a work in progress, saying the franchise needs additional time to address that key position.
Kroenke made waves earlier this season when he opted to part ways with both Malone, who had served as head coach for a decade, and general manager Calvin Booth. Reflecting on the decision, Kroenke admitted it was a bold move but one he felt necessary for the team’s future.
“I think that there was perhaps some confusion and some doubt over the decision-making, especially the timing of it, which I completely understand,” Kroenke said. “But I am very proud of the way the group came together under some very difficult circumstances, and I am proud to say I thought we squeezed a little bit more out of the season than the direction we were heading six weeks ago.”
Looking ahead, Denver’s primary offseason focus will be constructing a more well-rounded roster around star center Nikola Jokic, with hopes of returning to championship contention in the near future.
