The Denver Nuggets have officially named David Adelman as their new head coach, quickly filling the vacancy after parting ways with longtime coach Michael Malone.
Adelman initially stepped into the role on an interim basis following Malone’s departure just days before the end of the regular season. Under his leadership, the team closed the season with three consecutive victories and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Impressed by the turnaround, the franchise has decided to move forward with Adelman at the helm.
However, the Nuggets are still in search of a new general manager. Team president and governor Josh Kroenke acknowledged that while the coaching decision has been made, more time is needed to find the right executive to help steer the franchise.
Just a few weeks ago, the team made sweeping changes by relieving both Malone, who coached Denver for a decade, and general manager Calvin Booth of their duties. Kroenke described the decision as difficult but necessary to give the organization a fresh start.
“I think that there was perhaps some confusion and some doubt over the decision-making, especially the timing of it, which I completely understand,” Kroenke said. “But I am very proud of the way the group came together under some very difficult circumstances, and I am proud to say I thought we squeezed a little bit more out of the season than the direction we were heading six weeks ago.”
As the offseason approaches, the Nuggets’ primary focus will shift toward building a more balanced roster around superstar Nikola Jokic, with the goal of returning to championship contention.
