Former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams is still navigating free agency as he searches for his next NFL opportunity. After a rocky departure from the New York Jets—the team that drafted him sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft—Adams has expressed interest in returning to where his professional journey began.
“I would love to be back with the Jets and, obviously, finish it the right way,” Adams shared during a live chat with Jets fans on social media. “Man, that would be a dream come true, just to patch up that relationship and kind of make it right.”
Despite a turbulent end to his initial stint in New York, Adams still looks back at his Jets years with appreciation. During that time, he put together the strongest stretch of his career, earning two Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2019.
However, tensions flared when Adams grew frustrated with the team’s lack of direction and pushed to become the NFL’s highest-paid safety. The Jets’ front office didn’t share his vision, which led to his eventual trade to the Seattle Seahawks.
Adams quickly made an impact in Seattle, signing a four-year, $70 million extension and earning a Pro Bowl appearance in his first season. Unfortunately, injuries took their toll over the following three years, limiting him to just 22 games. He was eventually released.
Last season, Adams saw time with both the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions. While injuries and inconsistency have slowed him down, many believe a reunion with the Jets might just be what he needs to revive his career.
