Karl-Anthony Towns Downplays Finger Injury Following Game 3 Loss
New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns shrugged off concerns about a finger injury sustained during Saturday’s 115-93 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden.
“It is what it is,” Towns told reporters. “I just want to do whatever I can to be out there… I’m gonna keep finding ways to play, so I ain’t tripping.”
When asked if he had any imaging done on the injured hand after the game, Towns deflected, saying, “I’ll let [the team] tell you that.” As of Sunday morning, the team has not released any updates.
Despite his attempt to appear unfazed, fans and viewers noted Towns was noticeably in pain during the game. He appeared to injure his left hand during the second quarter after a floater attempt over Boston defenders Al Horford and Jrue Holiday. At one point during the ABC broadcast, cameras caught him seemingly telling teammates, “I think I broke it,” as he motioned to one of his fingers.
Towns remained in the game and finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. His status for Game 4, scheduled for Monday, remains the same.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau acknowledged the physical challenges players face in the postseason.
“It’s the playoffs,” Thibodeau said. “People are going to get hit, and you have to play through things. That’s why you prepare all season. No one is 100%. Mental toughness in the playoffs is crucial. You have to perform even when you’re not feeling your best.”
In his first postseason with the Knicks since being traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Towns has averaged 19.7 points per game — a dip from the 24.4 points he averaged during the regular season.
