Fighting it out for a place in this season’s Champions League final, Arsenal play host to PSG in the first leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday night.
The Gunners have seen off both PSV and Real Madrid in impressive fashion since coming through the league phase, while PSG have already got past Premier League duo Liverpool and Aston Villa.
I’ve already penned a separate match preview covering this contest but I’m now going to put together a three-legged Bet Builder.
Under 5 Goals
With Tuesday night’s first leg showdown at the Emirates unlikely to escalate into a high-scoring shootout, I’m more than happy to get the Bet Builder underway by backing under five match goals. The two teams have already crossed paths in the Champions League at this venue earlier this season, with Arsenal running out 2-0 winners on that occasion. The Gunners have subsequently played out a further five continental contests at their capital base this season, all of which featured four goals or fewer.
As for PSG, a sizeable 10 of their 14 Champions League matches this season have fallen below the under 4.5 goal barrier, one of which, as already mentioned, was against Arsenal.
Nuno Mendes to Commit 1+ Foul
For the first of two player-based selections, look to Nuno Mendes to commit a minimum of one foul. The PSG left-back has averaged 1.06 fouls per 90 in this season’s Champions League, overstepping the mark once or more in each of his last three appearances when on continental duty.
There is plenty of scope for that trend to continue on Tuesday night given that the Portuguese defender will likely find himself in a direct battle with Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal ace regularly finds himself on the receiving end of some rough treatment from opposition defences, evidenced by the fact that he has drawn an average of 2.01 fouls per 90 in this season’s Champions League.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 1+ Shot
I’ll conclude the Bet Builder by siding with PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to have a minimum of one shot on Tuesday night. Since making the move to the French capital during the January transfer window, the Georgian superstar has averaged a noteworthy 3.83 shots per game in the Champions League. In fact, Kvaratskhelia has tried his luck in each of his last five starts for PSG in this season’s Champions League, registering multiple efforts on each of those respective occasions.
When you consider the fact that Arsenal are giving up an average of 10.21 shots on goal per 90 when playing the Champions League this term, the aforementioned Kvaratskhelia looks a prime candidate to maintain his habit of having a pop at goal on Tuesday night.
