Didi Hamann, Romário, and Dunga were part of our 219-strong voting panel to determine this year’s list.
If someone had told me back in 1994 that I would someday work on a project selecting the best footballers in the world alongside Romário, I would have found it unbelievable.
That summer, I was in Rosersberg, witnessing Sweden’s journey to a World Cup semi-final and watching late games at the local Blå Laguna pizza restaurant. Tommy Svensson’s team was eventually defeated by a Brazil team featuring the exceptional Romário, along with Bebeto, Dunga, Jorginho, and Raí. Brazil ultimately won the World Cup, defeating Italy on penalties in the final.
