Patrick Mahomes of Chiefs Faces Season-ending Knee Injury - SCCG Management

The Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff hopes were crushed in a 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, overshadowed by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffering a season-ending torn ACL.

Mahomes underwent an MRI after the game, confirming the injury that will cut his 2025 season short.

“Don’t know why this had to happen,” Mahomes shared via social media. “And not going to lie, [it] hurts. But all we can do now is [trust] in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you, Chiefs kingdom, for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I [will] be back stronger than ever.”

Mahomes was injured with less than two minutes left in regulation after attempting to scramble out of the pocket and being tackled by Chargers defensive end Da’Shawn Hand.

Mahomes landed awkwardly as his left foot planted, causing his knee to buckle.

He completed 16 of 28 passes for 189 yards with an interception and a 62.9 passer rating in the game, while working through a left leg issue that might have contributed to the injury.

He finishes the season with 3,587 passing yards, 22 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, and an 89.6 passer rating, his lowest since his one-game appearance in the season finale in his 2017 rookie season.

Sunday’s loss ended the Chiefs’ 10-year playoff streak, the longest across the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL.
