In an exclusive interview, the former World Cup winner discusses leading Uzbekistan to the 2026 World Cup and a meaningful project in Naples.
Uzbekistan made history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since gaining independence 34 years ago, after losing only once in 15 qualifiers. However, they faced a challenge when Timur Kapadze resigned, and they needed a new head coach for the tournament.
They approached Fabio Cannavaro, Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning captain and Ballon d’Or recipient, who has had a diverse coaching career and was prepared to tackle the task of managing a nation new to the international football scene.
