Appalachian State’s strength lies in its ability to defend the ground game. The Mountaineers allow just 110 rushing yards per game, while Georgia Southern gives up 240 rushing yards per contest. That differential is massive and could be the deciding factor in this game. Georgia Southern’s offense has shown flashes with quarterback JC French IV at the helm, but the Eagles’ defense remains the weak link of their team.
App State’s offense suffered a letdown last week against Old Dominion on the road. The Mountaineers had scored 39 points per game over the two games prior to that matchup. But they only scored 21 points in a loss to the Monarchs. That was App State’s second straight loss and has put them in a position where they need to win two of their final four games to become bowl eligible.

Georgia Southern’s JC French IV comes into this game with 1,677 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also has five rushing touchdowns. French will be tested by an Appalachian State defense that has been better at home and is able to control the line of scrimmage.
App State QB AJ Swann has 1,083 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions. Swann completed 12 of his 16 pass attempts with two touchdowns and no interceptions against ODU last time out. The Mountaineers might need to be more aggressive with Swann through the air to avoid another loss in this contest.
