Authorities in Brazil suspect that a young influencer couple may be involved in a scheme promoting rigged online gambling games.
The couple, identified as Pedro Vitor and Aline Cavanellas, were recently questioned by police.
The primary game they promote is “Jogo do Tigrinho” or “Tiger Game.”
On Instagram, they showcased their wealth through various posts.
They also uploaded videos falsely claiming to have won from online gambling.
Together, Vitor and Cavanellas have a combined Instagram following of 3.6 million.
They allegedly encouraged their followers to engage in these online betting games.
It is believed that these games were programmed to prevent player wins, ensuring that only the owners profited.
Following the Money
The investigation revealed suspicious financial transfers totaling nearly $3.95 million (BRL 21 million).
It was discovered that the couple owned 15 properties, including mansions and luxury homes.
A law enforcement raid seized several phones, documents, and vehicles.
Police indicated that the masterminds behind the scheme are likely based internationally.
The investigation continues.
Claiming Innocence
The couple’s lawyers assert that their clients are not involved in the management of the betting platforms and are not behind any alleged crimes.
Gambling has gained prominence in Brazil recently.
Many have been drawn in by the “tigrinho game,” which promises quick earnings.
Players must choose the “little tiger” they believe will win, but the odds of winning are very low, leading to significant losses.
Games like the “tigrinho game” lack legal regulation, increasing the likelihood of being rigged.
The resulting losses have led to depression and anxiety issues among players.
Brazil is working towards regulating and legalizing gambling.
Games of chance, such as the “tigrinho game,” remain illegal in Brazil.
